The route is ideal for visitors who want fresh air, photography spots, and a quieter contrast to the city centre.

🗺️ Route Map

Use this map above to follow the walking route in order from start to finish.

Stop 1: Harbour Viewpoint

A working harbour area where you can see Aberdeen’s maritime and energy industries up close.

This part of the walk offers a more industrial coastal feel, contrasting with the open beach and promenade.

It’s a short but interesting transition point before reaching Footdee.

Look out for Dolphins!

Stop 3: Footdee (Fittie)

A historic fishing village located at the edge of Aberdeen Harbour, known locally as “Fittie.”

It features colourful cottages, narrow lanes, and a quiet, village-like atmosphere just steps from the sea and city.

This is one of Aberdeen’s most unique and photographed areas, and the highlight of the coastal walk.

Next door to Fittie along the beach front are various street food vans.

👉 Please note: This is a residential area — please be respectful while visiting.

📍Stop 3: Aberdeen Beach, Promenade & Leisure Area

Start your walk at Aberdeen Beach, a long sandy stretch along the North Sea with open coastal views and a wide promenade.

From here, continue along the beachfront walkway, passing cafés, leisure facilities, and open public spaces that line the seafront.

This entire stretch forms a continuous coastal experience, ideal for a relaxed walk with plenty of space, sea air, and places to stop along the way.

👉 This section is perfect for:

  • Walking and fresh air

  • Casual food and drink stops

  • Views across the North Sea

  • Amusement Park

  • Easy, flat coastal access

Optional Stop: Continue Along the Beach Promenade

If you're enjoying the fresh sea air, continue north along Aberdeen's wide sandy beach. The promenade stretches for miles, offering uninterrupted coastal views, plenty of space for walking, and a chance to appreciate the scale of Aberdeen's coastline.

As you head further north, the surroundings become quieter, making this a relaxing extension to the walk. Keep an eye out for seabirds, dolphins offshore if you're lucky, and the changing views back towards the harbour and city skyline.

Perfect for: A longer walk, photography, or simply enjoying Aberdeen's coastline at a slower pace.

🚧 Aberdeen Beach & Promenade (Regeneration & Development)

This stretch of Aberdeen’s coastline is currently undergoing significant regeneration and improvement works.

The beachfront area has seen ongoing investment, including upgrades to public spaces, leisure facilities, and surrounding infrastructure. Nearby areas such as the Beach Esplanade and links towards the city are gradually being improved to make the seafront more attractive and accessible for both visitors and locals.

You may also notice wider regeneration across Aberdeen, including changes to Union Street, Union Terrace Gardens, and the wider city centre, as part of long-term investment in the city’s public spaces.

While some areas may feel like they are “in transition,” the coastline remains fully accessible and continues to offer wide open views, walking routes, and access to Footdee (Fittie).

👉 This is a city actively changing — not a finished postcard, but a working coastal city being reshaped.
